Cape Town, 1st August 2008 – African Fashion International announces the line-up of designers participating at the Virgin Mobile Cape Town Fashion Week, to be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from the 13th – 16th August 2008.
Choosing the Virgin Mobile Cape Town Fashion Week to preview their Spring/Summer 08 collections to buyers, media, fashionistas and VIPs is a group of prominent South African designers, including Gavin Rajah, Rosenwerth, Hip Hop Clothing, Craig Port, Darkie, Stiaan Louw and Maya Prass.
Working closely with event partners, the Cape Town Fashion Council (CTFC), selection and curation panels have been working very hard to source talent that has not previously shown at Virgin Mobile Cape Town Fashion Week.
“It is part of the CT Fashion Council’s mandate to constantly develop and nurture new design talent, in an effort to further develop the industry in Cape Town and the province. We are immensely proud of the opportunity offered to these designers through participation the Virgin Mobile Cape Town Fashion Week,” says Jackie Burger, Editor of Elle Magazine, CTFC Board member and part of the selection panel.
As part of this partnership, the Fashion Council will present the opening day of Virgin Mobile Cape Town Fashion Week, with four dedicated fashion shows featuring the best of promising talent in the city. Selected designers include Lalesso, Freshwear, Goat Clothing, Sway, LoveWaterLove, Doreen Southwood and Tart.
All of these designers have built up admirable labels for themselves within urban Cape Town, and will be a fresh addition to the line-up of the fashion week.
“On reviewing the line up, you are left in no doubt that this week promises to be a must-see for anyone interested in South African fashion. With almost every name designer in the country selecting Cape Town to reveal their Spring/Summer collections, we are delighted at the progress this event is making and it is certain to be a genuine highlight for the whole fashion industry in this country,” said Evan Schiff, spokesperson for African Fashion International.
Rounding out the schedule is the eagerly awaited first showing by menswear retailer Fabiani, presented by Peroni – his first show in 10 years. Presenting for the first time is swimwear label Love Water Love.
“Capetonians should be looking forward to the Virgin Mobile Collection as the finale show where we’ll present & showcase some of the most visionary designers working in the country today along with a showstopper designed by Mzansi’s award winner, David Tlale which will be modelled by international supermodel Jourdan Dunn walking in South Africa for the first time,” said Nicholas Maweni, Virgin Mobile’s Head of Corporate Affairs.
The Virgin Mobile Cape Town Fashion Week will take place over four days in a purpose-built venue at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. Cape Town is once again expected to come alight every evening as renowned designers celebrate their collection launches with bespoke after parties at selected venues across the city.
